Hike

Asheville is home of the world’s most ancient mountains. Step onto a trail in a lush forest, and feel yourself relax. Click here for a summary of popular area hikes for all levels.

We recommend the Shope Creek trails only 1.5 miles from the Shope Creek Rd cabins: turn left at the top of the cabin driveway, drive approximately 1.5 miles until the road fords a small creek, then park in the national forest parking lot. If you’re staying at the A-Frame, we recommend the Warren Wilson College trails at Berea Church, just 1.4 miles from the cabin. GPS 2578 Riceville Rd, and park in the parking lot opposite the church. Both trails are dog-friendly.

For longer excursions, visit trails on the Blue Ridge Parkway such as Black Balsam, Sam Knob (pictured) or Craggy Gardens. Click here to access the nearby Appalachian Trail, the world’s longest hiking-only footpath.
